I find that it is best to begin by getting to know the student, introducing myself, being friendly, and maybe talking about shared interests. This normally occurs over several sessions, but is necessary to keep out the "just another teacher" perspective. While learning, it is important to build subject matter confidence. Since there are often mental blocks or preconceptions in place (particularly in math), I find it productive and beneficial to get students to understand and believe that the work is not impossible. This helps in the transition from "I can't do this." to "How do I do this?". I love being around and teaching kids. I am constantly around kids now. I am a single parent of a 10 year old dughter, and i am very into her school. First off i don't believe that a kid is dumb or doesn't know how to do anything. Children only know what we teach them. So if a child doesnt know how to do something it is a reflection on the teaching that he/she has had. I attended the college of The Virgin Islands (presently University of the USVI) and graduated with a Bsc in Biology in 1986. While in college I became captivated with computers and programming. A Little Bit About Me...

During my course as a math tutor, I’ve found one on one tutoring to be most effective. Each child presented different needs and was receptive to different teaching methods, so I would meet with them individually. I believe each child is just as likely to succeed as the next one, and as a tutor, it is my job to encourage and instill confidence in them.
