My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : Social Studies broadens our perspectives about people, cultures and history.

I have a hands on personal approach to learning. I believe many children get"lost"in the system and need individual skills and strategies to catch up and feel good about themselves as legitimate learners and doers."I can't" means "I won't" - attitude rather than ability and a fear of failure. Once a relationship of hope and increasing ability becomes apparent, most kids begin to care and thrive again. I use Montessori philosophy as well as some manipulatives with auditory and visual strategies to support concrete learning. My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : History that is somehow linked to today's news, however simplified for the age-group one is teaching, makes history so much more accessible and meaningful for young children.

I treat children with the same respect and dignity that I treat adults, regardless of their age. I don't use "baby voices," as my goal is to elevate them to their highest academic levels. I've been told I'm a "cool" teacher by students because I treat them "like people, not kids." I use humor whenever appropriate, if that "hooks" a student.
