No person learns identically to anyone else, therefore I approach pupils from their learning styles. I engage them, finding out what methods have worked and get a quick generalized understanding of how they learn. I challenge students to their frustration level (Piaget) and modify the situation to ensure success with clear possibilities to expand and learn more and in different ways. Most of the teaching I do involves hearing, visual, kinetic simultaneously ensuring maximum retention.
I achieved my BS in 3.5 years with certifications in Kindergarten and English for secondary education. I have employed multiple skills to teach many disciplines to students. My interest in Science and Technology encouraged not only students to learn, but other teachers to request my expertise. I have tutored many students, generally those needing special services, but I have also created strateg ... read more

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Purdue University with a focus on Modern English Literature. I have also spent several years as a full-time substitute teacher for a number of Northwest Indiana city school systems including Portage, Westville, Michigan City, LaPorte, and Valparaiso. During my teaching career, several teachers were happy to request and recommend my services for long term teaching assignments, including a four month assignment to a sixth grade Language Arts class for Michigan City Public Schools. Also, my services at Valparaiso Community Schools were respected enough to earn me a spot as an in-home instructor for two students considered too ill to attend classes.
I am very passionate about learning and I do believe that knowledge is the key for anyone who wishes to advance their goals. I treat everyone with respect and I am confident that anyone can ... read more

Currently I am employed as a home-based Family Specialist in Social Work. I teach parenting to persons in their homes. As I teach adults new parenting methods, I also teach children how to respond more appropriately to their parents, thus creating a win/win situation. By earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and a Master of Science in Management, I have learned skills that are necessary in both the personal and work world. I believe this has enhanced how I apply theory to practice. Many times as I am in different homes, I have tutored students who were in need. I served as a substitute teacher for a few months our local school system, though I prefer teaching on an individual basis.
In previous work evaluations my supervisor has described my teaching style as "Experiential". I have a passion to teach with example and hands on practial skills. I created a game in which to ... read more

Education does not stop with books. I incorporate "real life" experiences with the material being presented. I try to make the subject fun and meaningful to the student. My classes are run with volunteer participation. (They "jump and do" at the board.) I enjoy helping others and watching the lightbulbs come on with whatever level of student I am working with. I take homework, quizzes, and tests personally. They evaluate the student as well as me. Am I presenting the material in a manner that is understood? I try to convince students that fractions are our friends.
I have been teaching Reading Strategies and Basic Math at a community college for approximately 10 years. I have also taught pre-school, 3rd/4th in one classroom, and 5th, the last 2 classrooms were self-contained. Children are our heritage. Children have an innate desire to learn and I believe that with proper guidance, each child can be successful. I endeavor to determine what the child is interested in learning and build from there. Education is a very high priority in our family and we encourage others to further their education, whether it involves college or study on one's own, in order to better themselves.
I began homeschooling my children in 1993. My older son was in 8th grade, my younger son was in 4th grade, my oldest daughter was in Kindergarten, and my twin daughters were 2 years old. My older son graduated with 2 bachelor degrees after spending a year in France as an English teacher in a high school. My younger son graduated with a double degree and a minor. Both are currently in grad school. My oldest daughter will be returning to school next year after a 2-year leave. My twin ... read more

I generally give an assessment to find out about individual student needs. When working with younger students, I usually plan a series of activities, and learning games to help reinforce learning. I feel that it is important to develop goals, and would work with classroom teachers, if possible, to find out more about each student. I am able to tutor math, reading, writing, and other subjects. I enjoy helping students, taking time to develop a good working relationship, in which students feel comfortable. yet challenged.
I worked as a teacher's assistant for several years in public schools in Illinois, assisting in K-5 classrooms. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years, teaching beginning reading and elementary reading. As I gained experience, I began tutoring students in the school district where I worked. After several years, I became a fifth grade teacher in a p ... read more
