My comments on tutoring Composition : Worked as a writing coach for three years.

I graduated from Fitchburg State University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in English and Professional Writing. I went on to become a staff writer for the Lowell Sun, a daily print publication in Lowell, Massachusetts. When I was laid off due to budget cuts, I wrote freelance for several entertainment and political publications. I also worked for an independent publishing company as a manuscript reviewer for a year. After deciding to move into education, I passed the Reading, Writing, and English Secondary Education M.T.E.Ls and received my Preliminary Teaching License. College Undergrad Looking to Tutor English Students

While I have never conducted a formal tutoring session, I have edited the work of my peers and more recently assisted my girlfriend's younger sister with the completion of her college essay. From my experience, I have found that I prefer to work one-on-one with the student whose work I am editing. That way, I am able to explain my revisions and help them understand my reasoning behind making certain edits. I'm not, by any means, a hard-nosed individual, but I'll certainly do my best to ensure that the student learns something.

As far as teaching goes, I am mostly here to help the person with the way they write their papers, organization of paragraphs, spelling, whether or not the writing makes sense to the reader, and whether or not the reading understands what is written. I believe in being honest about my critiques to the person's writing and being a fair judge all to help the student improve his or her skills so they can become not just good but great at what they are doing.
