I love helping students understand Math.

I like to break down whatever skill I'm teaching in the simplest form at first. This means explaining the concept of the skill in a way that the student can understand what it is we are trying to do. I also try to use a pictorial representation of the skill if that is needed. After that I'll show them how I work a problem with that particular skill so they can see firsthand what the thought process is and the steps that are needed to use that particular skill whether it is adding fractions or solving equations, etc. Then I'll give the student a problem to do on their own while I guide them through the steps. If they get off on a particular step I'll correct them immediately and get them on the right path. Once I feel they understand what is going on and how to work a problem, I'll give them a problem to do without me watching them and see if they can get the answer right by themsel ... read more

I have a good experience of tutoring hundreds of students over a decade period of time. I have tutored from first grade student to bachelors' degree students. I have formally taught students from grades four to ten for six months as a science teacher. Recently, I helped my wife in Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Lab and College Algebra. She got straight A's in them upgrading her GPA. Most importantly, my tutoring helped my students to uplift their self-esteem, confidence and to accept learning as a process which can be made more pleasant and simple. :)

In order to provide the best teaching expereince I would teach through multiple examples and putting difficult subject matter into a context the student can understand and visualize. I believe in working with each student to develop a system that works best for the individual, which will give them the tool to learn more easily in the future.

Due to the influence of my parents, who are both math educators, I have always wanted to teach. My first job was on the faculty of a teachers’ university in China, where I taught computer science courses. In 1996 I came to the United States to study mathematics, and earned a Master's degree from Indiana University. While I was studying at IU, I was a teaching assistant and also tutored during the summer. Since then I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry at a high school, as well as Intermediate Algebra and Finite Math at the college level. In addition, I have experience as a classroom instructor and as a tutor with Kaplan, Inc.
I love to help people of all ages with their math. It is really rewarding when you show someone how to solve their problems, and then see them smile and feel relieved. I am friendly, considerate, thorough, and easy going. My belief is that when t ... read more

I would call myself a demonstrator or facilitator. First, I very calmly demonstrate and walk a student through the process of solving a similar problem. Then, I ask the student if they have any questions about the process. After this, I let the student try a few with my assistance and then a few more on his/her own. I don’t move on until I feel the student has grasped the material and feels confident with it no matter how much time and patience it may take. I have a genuine love for working with children.
My experience includes tutoring students from grades K-12. I was a staff at the Boys & Girls Club in Central Florida and I would help students who had questions about their homework assignments, give spelling quizzes for students with spelling words and also listen to students read daily. I’ve also tutored my fellow classmates in college in Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Trigonometry, ... read more

My teaching style is mostly form-fitted to each child. I assess what level they are at, how quickly they learn, and what areas they need help in or should strengthen. I cannot stress the importance of patience when it comes to tutoring children, which I have an abundance of, having taught various ages. Also, having studied psychology, I understand that children are very sensitive to negative feedback. I have experience in how to give constructive criticism to children and how this can only encourage them to do better.
Although my bachelor's degree is in psychology, my interests throughout my education have been to study children; how they learn, how they think, and what I can do to help them better themselves. Because of this interest, I have tutored children for a couple of years some years back, and was recognized for my efforts. I have excelled in mathematics, English, and p ... read more

During my four years at Notre Dame, I majored in mathematics and gained alot of experience in various areas of math. In addition, Notre Dame requires everyone to take a broad range of subjects for general credit and so I have learned skills in writing and grammar through work on several research papers. In my spare time, I tutored elementary age kids with homework and this last summer, I spent five weeks teaching primary school math in Uganda. Lastly, for the last three years, I worked as both a group tutor and an individual tutor for the First Year of Studies program at Notre Dame. I tutored freshman in both Calculus I and II and feel very comfortable working as a tutor in any setting.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring since I graduated from high school. I have earned my BS in Biology and a Masters in Physical Chemistry. I am currently working on my PhD in chemical physics. Being placed in upper level math courses in college gave me the opportunity to tutor my fellow students. As I advanced I was able to not only tutor, but I was asked to be a teaching assistant for biochemistry and physical chemistry. After graduation, I went on to become a teaching assistant for general chemistry and inorganic chemistry in graduate school, while also a full-time student. Working on my undergraduate and graduate degrees has not only given me a good foundation in math and science, but also in English and research. I have tutored or taught many different levels in science and math.

I am a recent graduate of two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Edward Waters College and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Florida A&M University. I was able to obtain both degrees under a Dual Degree Program that was arranged between the two institutions. Throughout the completion of my degrees, I tutored college students in various math areas (College Algebra, Trig, Linear Algebra, etc). The organization I tutored under was called "TRIO (Student Academic Support)” I even had personal tutor jobs on the side (ages 6 on up).
