I am an upcoming May 2006 graduate from Allegheny College, majoring in English. Given my background at a small, liberal arts college and being a former biochemistry major, I have a great understanding of language arts, math and science. I earned my Bachelor degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics. I was a substitute teacher for three years. I recently earned nine credit hours of additional education in order to renew my teaching license with the State of Ohio. Currently a stay-at-home mother, I give piano lessons to students at various levels of ability. I took piano lessons for eight years and am considered to be an advanced player.

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups.
