Learning's only effective if it's fun.

I have a goofy, hands-on style. I try to make it fun. I am very strict, however, when it comes to grammar, respect, and completing proposed tasks. Obviously I have different styles for adults and children. My lessons are always custom designed with the client in mind and age-appropriate. I have an arsenal of materials and activities which I constantly draw from. I aim for a balance between games of all sorts and drills/assessments. I have to be very flexible and creative while teaching, and I enjoy it very much.

My teaching style.... depends on the day, depends on the students, depends on the topic. One minute I can be dancing around the room and the next we're having a more serious discussion. My expectations are very high and I always push my students to do "just a bit better" than they think they can at that moment. At the end of the day, a lot of "just a bit better"'s add up to a whole lot! I try to work at a pace that is comfortable for the student and also meets the academic requirements for their program. The educators in VN were very tough. Call it tough love. While I learned a great deal, I always felt "abused" by the teachers (nuns). Many times during the school week, I came home with red markings on my face or hands. I take a softer approach. If you get a child excited, he/she will learn best! Human nature loves to play so if games can somehow be integrated into learning, voila! My nieces and nephews all asked their parents to have me teach them. Adult learners are no different. They too will respond appropriately if the lessons can be tied to their everyday experiences.
