A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with honors from Grove City College, I took a position as a writer for a large nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. While working as a professional writer, I dedicated my free time to tutoring at a center for urban kids.
Learning must be fun, especially in a tutoring context. In my previous tutoring experiences, I always attempted to turn tasks into games or opportunities for creative expression. For example, multiplication tables can become an opportunity to play a relay game. Learning different parts of speech can be made enjoyable by creating an imaginative story. My particular interest is helping children develop a passion for creative writing and reading. These were essential elements of my own childhood and my development as a writer, and I'm excited to share this experience with others.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Earlham College, a liberal arts institution, I had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of academic experiences. As an English major, I have acquired extensive grammatical skills as a result of writing numerous essays analyzing various types of prose. My study of Spanish was also quite thorough, and during my four years at Earlham I went from being an intermediate speaker to a fluent one. The courses I took within the Spanish Department were excellent, but the semester I spent abroad in Mexico was just as significant, for it immersed me in the language and culture of the Mexican people in a way I had never before experienced. Since graduating from Earlham, I have had the opportunity to tutor students in Spanish.

A Little Bit About Me...

I first taught when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Yemen. I had just graduated with an English degree and a teaching certificate, and I taught English to Yemeni men and women. Over the years, I have taught high school English in Honduras, Michigan, Minnesota and Missouri and ESL as well as one-on-one tutoring in Miami and Minneapolis. I have often taught English when I traveled and found myself in a new place. Right now I’m living in Indianapolis, and I would like to teach English again. I love watching students develop their skills to use language eloquently and persuasively. It’s inspiring to help facilitate that accomplishment.

A Little Bit About Me...

By working in a wide variety of fields, from film production to politics, I have a breadth of knowledge from working with many different types of students. I was once a student being tutored for the GRE, so I have been on each side of the desk. For two years I taught workshops on public speaking and speech writing. Before that I earned my Bachelor's degree in Writing, and had to do so through intimate writing workshops understanding the import of one-on-one teacher-student interaction. I am a writer, I write every day, and teaching is the dedication to other writers; I have that dedication.
Teaching is the solemn devotion to a writer's voice. I believe in inspiring young students to write from their hearts, with a keen interest in being grammatically correct. A Little Bit About Me...

After many years working in higher education and the arts, I made a career change into elementary education. While working toward that degree, I worked in middle school and some high school as an aide. I worked with students in all subjects, but my natural coursework is in English.
