A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with honors from Grove City College, I took a position as a writer for a large nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. While working as a professional writer, I dedicated my free time to tutoring at a center for urban kids.
Learning must be fun, especially in a tutoring context. In my previous tutoring experiences, I always attempted to turn tasks into games or opportunities for creative expression. For example, multiplication tables can become an opportunity to play a relay game. Learning different parts of speech can be made enjoyable by creating an imaginative story. A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Earlham College, a liberal arts institution, I had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of academic experiences. As an English major, I have acquired extensive grammatical skills as a result of writing numerous essays analyzing various types of prose. My study of Spanish was also quite thorough, and during my four years at Earlham I went from being an intermediate speaker to a fluent one. I first taught when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Yemen. I had just graduated with an English degree and a teaching certificate, and I taught English to Yemeni men and women. Over the years, I have taught high school English in Honduras, Michigan, Minnesota and Missouri and ESL as well as one-on-one tutoring in Miami and Minneapolis.
