I am very passionate about teaching. I am a very hands-on type of teacher that really likes to get the student involved in their learning. I like to set goals for learning, but also find it important for students to set their own goals as well. I believe that all children can learn, no matter what. It is just my job as a teacher to be able to help figure out their best way to learn as well as bring those resources to that student for their success.
I graduated National-Louis University with a 3.7 GPA, and am also in the Kappa Delta Pi honors society for teaching. I have had many years of experience in the classroom, and with many different programs. I also have tutored previously for Sylvan tutoring. I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.
