I graduated National-Louis University with a 3.7 GPA, and am also in the Kappa Delta Pi honors society for teaching. I have had many years of experience in the classroom, and with many different programs. I also have tutored previously for Sylvan tutoring. I am a Golden Apple Scholar, which is a prestigious award for teaching scholars that I won my senior year of high school. I worked for 14 years as a Project Engineer for the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety before deciding to start a new career as a teacher of high school physics. I attended the Transition to Teaching program at Calument College in Whiting Indiana and completed my Student Teaching at Munster High School in Indiana in the fall of 2008. In the spring of 2009 I passed my Content Area exam and in June 2009 received a Teaching License from the state of Indiana.

A Little Bit About Me...

My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.
I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
