I have worked part time as an adjunct instructor since the '70s, including 22 years with the Orlando Program of Florida Southern College, and 11 years with Valencia Community College. The later provided me with dozens of short courses in education. I also completed and retired from a civilian career with the US Army and Navy, starting as an intern, and reaching Senior Executive levels. Very recently I have been tutoring fifth grade and seventh grade students attending Lake Highland in Orlando. Also worked with math students working at Seminole State and Valencia.

One of the most difficult things about math is comprehending the concept. Many learn through repetition, or visual demonstration. I would think that my tutoring skills involve both. Repetition allows one to get an idea of what they are doing and it also helps develop questions. The questions help to get a full understanding of a concept. Sometimes to further complete understanding of a concept visual demonstration is needed. Based on my previous experiences in tutoring elementary school students, most of the time they really don't know the concept and are just going through the motions. If none of the two strategies mentioned above doesn't work I usually walk through everything slowly and find out where the problem is.

Over forty years of experience as an engineer and manager in the pharmaceutical and food manufacturing industries. Last position before retiring was as Engineering Manager for Kraft Foods Latin America. Academic experience includes two years as a full time instructor at the Univ. of Puerto Rico, and part time instructor at several institutions when my engineering career allowed me to. Also, for the last two years, I have been a part time instructor and math tutor at a community college in New York City.
