I believe that every student should be given more than enough opportunities to succeed in school. Generally speaking, I believe students learn much more efficiently when they have manipulatives to work with. Also, when students are able to relate to the subject matter, and know why it is important to learn it, they grasp and master the skill quickly and easily. My calm and caring manner also facilitates learning and reassures the students that I truly care about them.
Illinois State University is well known for their education program. Graduating from this university has filled me with pride and confidence in my ability to teach. I have taken many methods classes in which they taught me how to teach lessons in Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies, Special Needs students, and Literacy. The description of my teaching style changes with each new class I receive. I am a strong believer in the Multiple Intelligence approach to teaching, as individual students learn in many different ways. In my classroom, expectations are explained at the beginning of each lesson. Because attention spans only last between 12 and 15 minutes, I make sure to rotate activities to insure that my students are engaged. I am also a strong believer in "real world" lessons and activities that my students can relate to. This encourages my students' critical thinking abilities as well as a desire to learn.
