I have been in educator for over 10 years. I started teaching because of my volunteer work at the Memphis Literacy Council. I have discovered that every students is capable of achieving greatness if someone will take the time and effort to learn their learning style. I pride myself in being able to break things down to the most basic levels if necessary in order to reach a student. Often you have to know a child's personality, background, and home life in order to understand what he or she relates to. I don't believe in teaching a subject, I believe in teaching a student. I have tutored elementary students during my tenure in the Air Force on a volunterr basis. I worked as a Introduction to Computers instructor at Keiser College for two semesters. I have a fascination with math and numbers. My extensive experience with budgeting and using spreadsheets and formulas has kept me fresh with my math skills. I recently tutored a 50+ adult to take a math skills test for the CRC. He passed, and was had such a sense of accomplishment, after almost giving up hope that he could pass it.

While working to obtain a degree in Elementary Education at the University of Mississippi, I was able to experience a variety of tutoring and instructional techniques in the K-6 grades. Each semester I was assigned to specific grade levels that allowed me to work with instructors and students. I was given opportunities to tutor students throughout the semester through assignments, projects, and volunteering. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
