I am a very patient and driven teacher, which I believe are extremely important characteristics. Easy going is a great way to describe my personality, and students seem to sense that from me. It makes for a comfortable learning environment, but I also love having a lot of structure and planning in my methods so that learning stays on track. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment. Once that learning environment is created, teaching is easy. I have worked with difficult students. One, who we will call John, has Autism, Schizophrenia, and vomits when upset. A Little Bit About Me...

None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Along the way, I earned certification in a half dozen fields (especially loved English, social stuides, and psychology). I was employed for decades in education, teaching full-time for five years, often teaching on the side when I was counselor or administrator. A Little Bit About Me...

Working with such a diverse population of students ranging from grades 3-12, I have learned that each child processes information in different ways. Assisting them in overcoming their learning disability has taught me to understand and identify their struggles and how they can work through them. I teach positive social and communication skills through small group discussions and lecture based presentations. Much of my teaching experience is rooted in one-on-one and small group interaction. I believe that every child has the right to an equal education and that every support service that is available should be provided.
