Earned degree 1966-Have traveled multiple times in Europe where I have successfully used the French language in French speaking and non-French speaking areas. Have tutored for two years through two different services. I very much enjoy helping others to learn another language, and have fun with it. I am also qualified to tutor basic math and reading.
I prefer a relaxed relaltionship with students regardless of their age. I do not try to force anything, rather comfortably explain things on a level that can be understood by the student. I try to have fun with the subject, and make it interesting on the student's level of understanding/experience. I realize some students may not be comfortable in a remedial situation, and try to encourage participation in a non-threatening manner.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to discover what each student needs to learn in order to be successful. I teach in a way that is most effective with that student. I have found that students can make rapid progress when they have an opportunity to fill in the gaps of their skills and knowledge. Over the years, I have learned many strategies to help students acquire the skills they need. I help students to build on their strengths as they overcome their academic weaknesses. I have also learned that students learn more quickly when the lesson is interesting to them, so I choose reading material for a lesson with that in mind. As a recent graduate at the University of Missouri with degrees in International Studies and Spanish, I have obtained the indispensable ability to speak Spanish fluently. In addition to this skill, I have a TEFL certificate, which has involved me going to an adult literacy center for English, where I teach my own native language.
