My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

Before I start tuoring a child, I like to get know them first. I think it's important to build trust with a child before jumping in and telling them what to do. A child will be more likely to accept help from someone they know rather than a total stanger. I like to make learning fun.
At Birmingham-Southern College, I was the News Editor for the college newspaper for two years. In addition, I have a minor in Journalism. I love to write and I feel that this is one of my strong points. I also tutor two young girls every Wednesday afternoon at Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama. I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games.
