My comments on tutoring Geography : Experienced on High School level Geography or below.

Through a challenging secretary position in IEVA and interning at the International Affairs Office of Shaoguan University, my translation/interpretation skills got enhanced and professionalized. One notable experience was when I served as a program supervisor for the winterim study abroad program for the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire (UWEC). This experience enabled me to interpret and translate in a more professional and efficient way by supervising volunteers and conducting most of the events. I also provided necessary assistance for American students on a daily basis, made sure that the program went well every day, and finally achieved a satisfactory approval from both UWEC faculties and the Director-General of International Affairs Office. For most of the experience I have obtained there were several important events that strengthened my translation skills. The international ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. I tutored mainly in math, but I also helped with all of their homework and helped them study for tests. I found it to be an excellent learning experience for me as well as the student. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to learn, and when sharing that knowledge, my ultimate goal is to leave the student with a spark that will hopefully motivate them to pursue the subject above and beyond the lesson. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I like to break a project into smaller chunks with clear boundaries. I believe that having the student participate in defining these goals helps them focus, keeps them from getting overwhelmed, and gives them a way to measure their own success. In addition, the teacher needs to ensure the student is motivated to learn by providing materials and methods that are of interest to the student, and match his/her learning style.

I like to help students use their minds first instead of relying on machines (such as calculators). When they work it out in their minds they learn the process and can apply it to other things. Reading requires the knowledge of pronunciation, syllables, root words for meanings, prefixes/suffixes, and how they are put together. It is more than just learning sight words. If one is analytical and precise in the beginning then a firm foundation is laid for using basic information to build ideas and develop new thoughts. i.e.: one cannot play a piece with feeling if one cannot play the notes, rhythms, and dynamics. The enjoyment of learning is in the confidence of knowing one knows and is able to do.
I began teaching private piano and oboe lessons around 1970 and continued it as time permitted until the present. It is enjoyable and rewarding to see someone work hard and feel with them t ... read more

I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.
During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.

I love helping and teaching anyone. For the first part of any session with a new tutee, I would like to understand your learning style, so we can form a plan to help you comprehend the material the best. If you do not understand something in one way I explain it, I always have different ideas or ways to help you understand. I have had to use different styles because I have worked with people with many different types of needs including dyslexia, English language learners, and learning disabilities. I am patient, I relate well to many people, and I have excellent communication skills.

I believe that it is possible for all children to have success. I am a firm believer in celebrating even small successes. My approach to working with children is to use materials that interest and relate to the child. I believe that this helps each child realize the importance of their learning. I use hands-on, hearts-on, minds-on activities whenever possible so that children internalize what they are learning. I let every child I work with know that I believe in them and let them know that they can achieve whatever they set their mind to. I then make it my job to plan learning activities to accomplish the goal of the child.

I am currently teaching part time at Globe University, I teach Business Math and Accounting. I have always enjoyed teaching. I love it when students have that moment when they finally get what you have been teaching them. I have taught a wide range of students, from Kindergarten thru 60 year-olds returning to college. I believe that the hands-on approach works best for most students, learning by applying their knowledge. I feel I have made a difference i ... read more
