A Little Bit About Me...

Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basics and working up to the harder subjects is important. So, with the assignment given I also ask other questions of the student to see if they understand the more basic concepts of the problem as well as answer the question. I find this helps them understand the process more completely and the student ends up giving more complete answers on assignments and exams. At the end of each session I hope the person I am helping better understands the material and can gain a little confidence about the subject.

I believe that if a student wants to learn a subject and is willing to put forth the effort, that student has the tools to succeed. Quite often they just need help in "how" to learn. There are a lot of subjects that are intimidating to students. I like to demystify and simplify the subject so that the student has a greater chance for success.
I currently am a substitute teacher for all grades from 1st grade to high school. I started this avocation after spending 27 years in the Finance and Accounting areas. I have an MBA from the University of Kansas. One of the gifts God has given me is the ability to help others reach their potential. There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to understanding difficult and complicated concepts. By seeing the information you are learning in a different way, you now have one more method of remembering that material. I believe that students learn best when they not only hear the information that they need to know but also know how to use and apply that information.
