I came to notice that there are individuals and companies in Florida looking for academic tutors through the posting at North campus. I have a deep rooted desire to help students with Mathematics and Science subjects including English language. I have had also experience in giving a tutor class for high school students. When I was in Ethiopia, I used to coordinate college students to teach high school students in subjects like mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English during long summer breaks. I also worked as a par-time tutor when I had been studying Geology at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Upon graduation from Addis Ababa University I worked as application software tutor for about four months which includes Ms-Dos, Ms-Windows, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel, and Ms-Access. After I arrived to America I have been helping Elementary school students with their home works. I am prett ... read more

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.I do and I get it.

The experience I have gained while studying Education and Psychology, along with administrating exams for Wonderlic Scholoastic Testing and tutoring has enabled me to learn through understanding, hard work and dedication. I have learned through extensive courses in Psychology on how we learn, education courses that break learning down, and working with children and adolescence for over ten years with tutoring and patience, that with the proper tools and guidance, anything can be achieved.
I believe that implementing the right tools, along with clearly stating what the student needs to learn, along with discussion, will ensure student success.Using multisensory resources, creatively using the newly formed knowledge, along with pre-testing will foster memory and recall.

"Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

I taught English as a second language and worked as an interpreter for an industrial firm after I received my B.A. degree. I have excellent command of math and science-related subjects as a licensed civil engineer. I prefer to teach students ranging from middle school to college. Dedication is what I expect from my students; I teach concepts and clarify ambiguities, and , in return, expect them to work hard to be able to apply what they learn.

Every student can learn, I help them find their own SUCCESS!

I have strong classroom management skills and a passion for helping kids gain a better understanding for anything under the sun! I have high expectations of what my students can do, and help support them in achieving those expectations. My philosophy is that "can't" is the worst 4 letter word in the dictionary, as a result, I work to motivate my students to become life long learners and to enjoy learning new things.
I began working with children at the age of 10 in the capacity of babysitter/activities director. As a teen I began working in daycare centers and have worked in the capacity of teacher/assistant teacher/ director/owner. I have taught public school in Florida and the Bronx, NY over the past 5 years. I have worked as a drop-out prevention teacher and have had the privileged to work with a large number of disadvantaged and at-risk students.

Patient, Engaging, Effective Tutor

I have tutored students in many subjects, including language arts, math, science, and reading. I have worked with students under NCLB and with FCAT (Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test program). Some of my past students had learning disabilities, such as Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, or diagnosed as "Slow Learner." Several of these students were being medicated and were repeating at least one grade. I was able to help them with their educational needs. I have an extensive academic background, possessing AA, BA, and MA degrees. I have a reputation for high personal integrity and positive results. All of my students have made significant improvements as I worked with them. In addition to tutoring, I have proctored grade school students in various subjects and adult learners in the GED as well as employment exams. Math is one of my top subjects!

Hands on with many examples. I feel students learn best through examples.
I've had a passion for math ever since I was little, which led me to pursue a degree in Actuarial Science. I've taken pretty much every math class that I can think of. From Pre-Algebra to Calculus III, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Differential and Partial Differential Equations, etc. A professor of mine once said that we tend to not like what we can't understand, and there is huge truth behind his quote. My goal is to make my students love math by the time we're through! :)

Full-time teacher looking to help students

Through my experience I have learned the importance of making sure kids understand the WHY of what they are learning. For kids to have a full understanding of what they are being taught, they need to understand the foundational skills that have led up to what they are learning. By helping fill in these gaps, kids will be mores successful in the future and be able to transfer their knowledge to understand what comes next. Its important that kids don’t just follow the steps, but know why the steps matter.
I am a full-time teacher and have been in the classroom for more than 7 years. I have taught various ages and subjects including 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I am currently a 5th grade STEM teacher, specializing in math and science. I enjoy being able to work with kids who have previously struggled, and have been told to follow the steps being taught, but have never had the opportu ... read more
