I am a very hands-on teacher. I try to help students by showing them how it is done and then letting them practice.
I have experience in all of the fields that are listed. Most of the skills I have acquired were either through learning them during my time at school or through doing personal research because they interested me. I have done some tutoring in the computer/i.t field as a side job. Chess has been one of my favorite things to learn. I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example. I also find it is beneficial to make references to the different careers one might use the knowledge learned in the child's classes.

Through the experience of pursuing my degree at Boston University, I was exposed to many different styles of learning and teaching due to my interdisciplinary concentration in Latin American Studies.
