I have been teaching in various forms for over ten years. I was a teaching assistant for four semesters in graduate school. I mentored and tutored people during my time as a Naval officer. I worked for Kaplan Inc for about a year, teaching almost all of their tests, including SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. I taught mathematics and statistics at Parkland College for three years. I am currently employed as a full-time instructor at a government laboratory...but I'd like to teach more, in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends!

A Little Bit About Me...

The education that I have received in Biology and Chemistry enabled me to develop excellent skills not only in many of the life sciences and physics but also math. I've always been really good with the sciences and ever since I can remember would help my classmates. I have volunteered to tutor biology and chemistry in college for almost 3 years. I've helped plenty of people before exams in those disciplines and I feel comfortable tutoring.
I would like to share my experience with the people I teach on how to use many of the short cuts in both math and physics for a better understanding of the topics covered. Also I encourage students to do as many practice problems as possible; I believe with enough practice, everyone can become experts even at the difficult topics.

My pre-medical school coursework allowed me to gain conceptual and hands-on understanding in the areas of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology. In addition to my scientific training, I enrolled in the Honors program with a concentration on Western Civilization. The curriculum that the Honors program offered took me through the writings of Homer to the films of Roman Polanski. I have gained extensive experience writing research papers, laboratory reports, book reviews, memoirs, fictional stories, and analytical critiques. During the last three years I have volunteered my time tutoring international students English. My class sizes ranged from 20 students to one-on-one sessions.

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy teaching basic physics and mathematics and have been told I am pretty good at it. One of my greatest strengths is the ability to explain a concept in different ways, as of course, people don’t all learn the same way. There’s nothing more rewarding than finding the right explanation and watching the light bulb come on when a student grasps a concept with which they were struggling. Although I am pretty good at classroom presentation, my favorite interaction is one-on-one or in small groups, when teaching can occur that is tailored to an individual. I am very patient and easygoing and like working with people of all ages. If there’s a student that truly wants to learn, I’ll do my best to teach. I haven’t failed yet.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to help people in any way I can. I worked as tutor for federally funded TRIO department where I helped economically disadvantaged and first generation college students who had difficulty with the class material. I'm very patient, easy to get along with, and good at developing rapport with my students. I'm good at understanding students’ learning styles and very flexible in changing my teaching styles according to students' needs. I always try to make learning material interesting by relating it to the real life scenarios or other interesting examples with which students can relate to. My goal is to help students succeed in their education so that they could make a difference in their lives.

My greatest joy as a tutor and professor is to witness the "Ah-ha" moment when the light bulb comes on and the student puts the pieces together and comes to understand the topic, and, perhaps more importantly, understands the significance or ramifications of the topic in relation to other topics or disciplines. As the “Ah-ha” moments add up a student’s confidence grows. Ultimately, this confidence in learning is what I am trying to achieve. I want the student to learn and believe that there is nothing he/she can’t achieve with effort and perseverance. I believe that anyone can learn anything. I have a very friendly and gregarious approach with students. It’s my goal to help students achieve success and reach their maximum potential.
