Although instructors/tutors have a preferred teaching style, I will often mix in some elements of other styles. If I wish to take a more open approach to my teaching, I include a blend of various styles which is very effective. Teacher-centered, where the teacher is expert and authority in presenting information works well with students who need little direction from the instructor, and/or those who accept responsibility for their own learning. I believe that all students can learn with a patient tutor. Many of my students find math frustrating but I have the ability to break all concepts down to the most basic elements and build from there. My method is to reach students exactly where there at and use methods that would stimulate all types of learners . Once I was teaching a group of sixth graders who would be entering Algebra soon. I gave them a true life math example. Our equasion; a party with the number of students, quantity of different items and costs. When we devided the items their costs with the number of students we came up with how much each student had to pitch in. In this example I had some items that were to be used and they were able to touch them. I also told them very clearly what was going on while I was writing it all down. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is dependent on the student. With some students I find that they just need initial guidance from me before I let them be independent with their assignments. With other students I have found that they need me to hold their hand, so to speak, during the whole process. When that is the case I make sure that the student does not feel inadequate by having me walk them through each assignment.
