I have taught all core subjects plus art history for over 20 years using various state mandated materials and supplementals I purchased through special ed catalogs. Student outcomes were best with the supplementals due to limited attention span and high interest-low level materials. I use various methods to determine mastery- I create my own written or verbal assessments, writing assignments and have students maintain learning journals. Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! I am interested in teaching this at elementary school level.

I have taught grades 3 and six as part of my internship in Messina, New York. I tutored third grade children in remedial reading as a private business.
