I have a Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology field as an Assistant. I graduated 11 years ago from University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus. During my bachelor's degree I took some curses of American Sign Language. From 8/1998 to 2/2002 I worked in Clinica de Terapias Pediatricas working in one on one basis with students to get them improve in the areas of speech, language and comprehension. When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me until he/she is comfortable with me. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins! When I really get a feel for the personality and whatever particular challenges are unique for this person in this class, I am able to determine the best way to communicate the subject and improve the skills. I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what aspect of a problem a student does not understand and then elucidating that point. I think much instructional time is spent inefficiently in explaining what a student already understands and not explaining what he or she does not understand.
