I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Reading and spelling is taught using the Orton-Gillingham approach. This method is perfect for students with Learning Disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD/ADD, and language processing problems. I use materials from the Wilson Reading System for their ease and low cost to parents. I am a Michigan certified teacher in the area of Learning Disabilities, Secondary English, and Secondary Social Studies. I have a love for learning and teaching!

I have been teaching special education for six years. I taught special education to kindergarten through third grade in a Montessori school for four years. I have experience in teaching students with disabilities in reading, writing, and math.
