I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try several different content areas such as Special Education 7th grade Science in a Push-In model, ESOL, Home and Careers, Career and Financial Management as well as substitute teaching in many areas K-12, in addition to teaching technology in multiple districts. The very first task is to assess the student's age and learning style. Once this is determined I select the teaching style to best accomodate the student's needs. Although I have used Expert and Formal formats, I prefer to incorporated Personal and Facilitator styles. Personal establishes a prototype for how to think and behave. It oversees, guides, and directs by showing how to do things. Facilitator guides and directs students by asking questions, exploring options, suggesting alternatives. The goal is to develop the capacity for critical thinking, initiative, and responsibility with lots of encouragement and support.
