As I carry out my personal philosophy of education, I seek to make learning lifelong and to encourage children to become contributing and active members of our society. To that end, it is my hope to make it possible for all children to gain understanding of material, to think critically about what they are learning, and to be able to apply their learning to everyday life and to their futures. I believe it is the role of the teacher to help students recognize their abilities and lead them towards life choices that use those abilities to the fullest. Often, we, as adults, have forgotten what we learned in school. This saddens me and motivates me to teach children skills and techniques that will benefit them now and in the future.

I have a BS in Chemistry, an MFS in Forensic Chemistry and a strong aptitude in math and computers. Early on in my career I spent 1 1/2 years as a substitute teacher in the areas of math and science, including several months as a long-term substitute in chemistry. For the last 20+ years I have been employed as a chemist/scientist/supervisor in both government and corporate settings. As a scientist I routinely mentored the chemists who worked with me and as a supervisor I was responsible for the training of new hires. I was the designated Lab Math trainer for 4 years and have provided training in numerous software applications as needed. I have also been teaching adult classes at my church for the last 10 years.

I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
