A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.
During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.

My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. At college level, I lecture, write on the chalk board, give handouts, give and grade class and home assignments, and provide where necessary, one on one tutoring supported with several examples. At lower level tutoring, I follow any official guidelines provided or I listen to student's or students' problems to determine the weak points where they need help and I then work with the student(s) after developing an appropriate strategy for helping the student(s).
I have taught and tutored College level Economics, Statistics, Management, and Several Agricultural Economics courses for over twenty years in six different universities and colleges in Africa and in the United States. I have a natural talent for being a leader/teacher and have been complimented on my ability to reach out to youth. I like to teach through “hands on” approach, practice and problem solving. While in college I worked a number of years as an after school program classroom lead for two different school districts in the twin cities area.
