Throughout my teaching career,I've also worked as a mental health professional. I admired working as a mental health professional,because it helped me to understand and relate to my students better. I taught Early Childhood and Elementary school, grades Pre-K through 5th, in the Houston Independent School District for 10 years. I mostly taught 1st grade. It is amazing to see them progress and learn, from non readers to readers, from non writers to story writers. Since I moved to Baton Rouge I continued tutoring children struggling academically in the areas of Math, Reading, Language Arts, Spanish, and Social Studies. The relationship that I and your child will have will be based on mutual respect, and I will ensure that your child's academic specific needs will be my focus. Each child has a different way to learn. As a trained and certified teacher I find ways that my students can grasp the concepts and learn. I believe that concepts should be learned first on a concrete level, using hands on strategies. Once they "get it", we can move on to more abstract ways to understand.

I have experience teaching technical and educational courses, to disadvantage youths. I also, have extensive experience in Leap testing.I taught elementary classes for over 3 years grades 2nd-6th grade within a private organization. I taught classes for a Private organization as a Business Instructor, teaching classes in Management, Computer Information, and Communication. My teaching style is friendly and approachable. I find putting a student at ease in the beginning allows them to open up to me in order for us to both find out how he or she learns best, especially since I feel learning styles vary for each individual and often differs for some subjects. For example, I may want to use pictures and art to explore history versus reading and lecture type presentations. I have taught both college and AP High School for college credit in the areas of Humainties, Religious Studies and English composition at three different institutions. Though I do well in large classroom settings, I prefer more personalized instruction settings. I think I would make an excellent tutor in the areas of English Composition and Literature and World History on both the high school and college level, and would likely do quite well to tutor high school French.
