I will only be taking elementary kids as students!

I am currently enrolled in highschool but I tutored many of my cousins for the past several years so I'm great with young kids! I don't have any proper work experience but I'm hoping this will be my first.I have volunteered at many elementary schools and I can speak fluent Hindi and Bengali. My comments on tutoring Writing : I tutor in technical writing, professional writing, and creative writing.

I've taken courses in tutoring, grammar, Shakespeare, and writing composition, as well as worked in the University Writing Center at my university as a writing consultant. I currently tutor three Middle Eastern students in writing composition, conventions of English grammar, and health. I do freelance proofreading and editing.
Because English and literature is subjective, I use a nondirective approach to ensure that the student is exercising their creative problem solving skills and critical thinking skills. Basically, I ask them about their interpretation of the text or their own writing. With grammar, I typically model the correct use for the student two or three times, and then have them finish finding patterns and correcting mistakes themselves.

A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone learns in different ways so it's important to me that I get to know the students first. That way I can differentiate the lessons for each student. I have also learned that students are more engaged when it's a subject matter that they care about. Of course it's not realistic that this will always be the case. I have limited experience in tutoring. The experiences include tutoring student nurses in the clinical facilities and in the Fundamentals of Nursing. When I worked with the students in the facilities, I would always demonstrate an organized way of assessing a patient from head-to-toe. I would ask a patient to agree to this procedure. I explained exactly what I would be doing. I emphasized that all the clinical students (males and females) would be watching and asking me questions. I would then type up (document) the findings and give each student a copy.
However best the student learns. I believe in "hands-on" whenever this is feasible.

I'm looking to create readers and writers!

I worked as an elementary school librarian for ten years. This was a teaching position -- I developed and taught lessons in library skills and assigned grades. I have also worked as a classroom teacher and substitute teacher. Recently, I volunteered for a local immigrant-services organization, tutoring an immigrant from Myanmar in English.
My approach is fairly structured, with heavy emphasis on the "nuts and bolts" of content and on moving smoothly and logically from one step to the next.
