I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. Each child have a different learning style so I try to work with them to see what works for them. I have worked with kids who have ADD and the gifted. I am a very interactive teacher. I find it helpful for the students I work with if I am able to relate a lesson to something else with which they are familiar. I like to use tangible learning tools and hands on methods, allowing the student to get the most experience possible with a lesson in order to really grasp and have deep understanding of the material.
I am currently a tutor and mentor for a fifth grade child in Delaware, Ohio via the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I have gained a tremendous amount of experience working with this student in and out of the classroom, and it has allowed me to develop my teaching skills in all areas of curricula. I tutor my student in each and every one of her subjects. I also informally tutor some of my peers at Ohio Wesleyan University, particularly in Science classes, in which I am most experienced.
