A Little Bit About Me...

I have my degree in Elementary Education. I have had experience teaching large class sizes, but I have also spent a lot of time in small group reading instruction, and I have worked in small group math. I tutored a kindergarten girl to improve her phonemic awareness. I tutored Language Arts in elementary school after school hours. I worked at a day care for 5 years and helped students with their homework after school.
I believe in meeting students at their level of need, and mastering the skills needed in order to move onto higher level skills. I believe in teaching students how to develop their critical thinking skills, and teaching them the concepts needed to succeed in school and life.

I have a BA degree in Economics/International Studies/French from the University of TN – Chattanooga, a certificate in French from the Sorbonne in Paris and 23 hours in English from Arizona State University. I also have graduate work in non-profit management with a concentration in fundraising. As a graduate with a BS degree in Elementary Education, I have gained knowledge in the practice of teaching elementary school. I have been able to observe classrooms as well as student teach. I was able to put my knowledge to use while I student taught by planning all lessons, implementing fun and relevant activities as well as integrating subjects. I have been teaching for ten years. I am Literacy First trained and I am on the math vertical team which deal with implemtations of different math concepts. I have been very successful with test score for the end of grade. I have worked as a tutor for the last three years.
My teaching style is one of lecture and classroom discussion with teacher and peers. I believe in letting children discover and learn a concept on thier own. After the children have dicscovered the concept and have small understanding of that concept, I will then come in with the lecture and note taking to clarify any misconceptions. I believe in small group work with the teacher and with classroom peers.
