A Little Bit About Me...

My high school Chemistry instructor had a profound impact on me. Although the subject was a difficult one, his passion for it was so infectious that, by the end of my junior year, I WANTED to be a chemist. I went on to attain Chemistry degrees from Long Island University (BS) and the University of Maine (MS with thesis). I subsequently enjoyed a 28-year career at Kodak in such diverse Chemistry-related fields as lithium batteries, pharmaceuticals, and diagnostic imaging. While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them.
