I am a culinary school graduate and a full-time chef. As part of my chef-ly duties, I regularly find myself teaching cooking techniques and helping people become more comfortable in the kitchen. I use the Orton- Gilingham multi sensory approach.

I Have worked for the Davis County School district for 12 years. The last few years I have been working intervention for students who are not performing at grade level. I have learned that not all kids can learn the way they are taught in school. My 8 year old is dyslexic. I Have studied the Orton-Gilingham multisensory approach to reading and spelling. I believe that the basis of learning is understanding the principles of the subject. If a student has a thorough knowledge of the basics, then he does not need to rely on root memorization or luck to pass classes. I believe teaching and learning the basics are far easier than simply attempting to pass a test or earn a decent grade. A Little Bit About Me...

As a college tutor I worked with ESL students in writing. My English and MLIS degrees help with reading developement, research, literature selection, and writing quality. I have also home schooled my elementary age children in all academic subjects. Currently, I am volunteering at a local elementary school in the STAR program tutoring young children in reading.
I have a daughter that is hearing impaired and has a langauge processing disorder. I also have a teenage son that is extremely bright, but a little lazy at school work.
