I am a college grad who has tried different careers from tech support,tennis coaching ,elementary education. I was just laid off from my tech support job and planning to get back into the education field. I have a strong Spanish background since both parents are of Cuban descent and my dad was a Spanish professor. I am also a former college tennis player and I do a lot of coaching on the side including coaching my own daughter. I also have taken elementary education and have done a practicum. One thing I have learned in my many years as a tutor is that each student is unique. I try to be flexible in my approach. With grammar and mechanics, I have found that a directive manner is often the best approach; sometimes, however, students require clarification of ideas and organization, in which case I pose questions and share observations, rather than instruct. With reading assignments, clarification of thesis, organization, and vocabulary are usually most helpful.
