My teaching style revolves around the specific learning needs of students because each person not only learns differently but has specific strengths and weakness. As teachers it is our job to meet the needs of all learners. I do not believe in presently material in one way, or one way all the time. I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. I have experience as a volunteer tutor in social studies and math, a paid tutor in reading, a student teacher, and as a substitute for the last year and a half. I also have experience as a mentor to young people through the YMCA.

I am a retired Boulder valley teacher and I have taught from the preschool to college level for over 20 years. Most recently, I worked as an ESL and reading teacher. My training was modeled after reading recovery and involved one year of supervised teaching one-on-one with children who were struggling readers. The goal of this training is to help children work with their strengths as readers, rather than focusing on their weaknesses. Children learn the strategies that they need in order to be successful, independent readers. The work I do with them is very focused and begins with a thorough diagnostic assessment of their reading abilities. I have six years of experience working one-on-one with children to improve their reading. I also have extensive experience teaching and writing with both native English speakers and second language learners from the elementary to college level.

I provide good mental discipline in my tutoring along with a comfortable working environment. My lessons blend structure and sensitivity to the student’s individual learning style. I often assist students with specific tasks such as organizing and completing their school work, yet I am open to creative teaching approaches. I give firm and intelligent direction, helping students to accomplish their goals. I keep my “eye on the ball” when the student‘s attention strays away from the lesson. I am patient, focused, and very experienced. I have a degree in English from Syracuse University in New York. I have 15 years of tutoring and teaching experience in English and Spanish. My previous work positions include: teaching Spanish at the University of Colorado (CU) in Boulder, tutoring English and Spanish at CU-Boulder, and tutoring English and Spanish at Front Range Community College in Longmo
