A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been interested in the educational field. I have extensive knowledge in the areas of psychology, writing, and the sciences (particularly biology, anatomy and phsyiology). I have taught several introductory psychology classes at a local community college. In addition, as a graduate student at Alfred University I monitored a study hall of football players and provided the students with tutoring in pscyhology and writing/composition. I also discussed with students their time management, organizational, and study skills. While at Daemen College, I was a tutor in the areas of psychology and history. My teaching style is to have a set of problems made up for the students to observe as examples to help understand certain chapters. I will assign additional problems if needed and focus on the subject matter that is the hardest for the individual to understand.
I have taken statistics and gotten an A in the course and still have all course materials to give a general overview of statistics and how to use SPSS. I am knowledgeable on the software and would be able to answer questions on statistics because of how well I did and how I used to help others who struggled with the class.

Since obtaining my Master’s degree I have had the opportunity to work in coaching and reading specialist positions. This entailed working with both experienced and beginning teachers and students. My philosophy is that education is power. Knowledge is our greatest defense and our greatest weapon. Through knowledge we gain experience, which enriches our competence, which protests the ills of society, which leads to a social justice, and most important, liberty. Learning is an activity that we should never stop, and if we do, we begin to die. I believe all children can learn given the appropriate avenues to success. Part of our job is to find those avenues and encourage our students to use them.
I have been substitute teaching for 5 years. Within that time I decided that teaching was for me and went on to get my degree and certificate to teach.
