A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate, I attended Purdue University and worked as a teaching assistant where I ran my own lab, instructing students for one of their core management courses. In my junior year, I was asked to apply to an invitation-only program for an an accelerated MBA program only for exceptional students. I am now entering my final year of this program and will graduate in 2011 with a BS in Business Management and a Masters degree in Business Administration. The graduate program is team focused and emphasizes working with and teaching diverse groups of people.
I am a strong believer in teaching through examples and letting students try to apply the knowledge I have taught them at various smaller stages, then apply it to the bigger picture. I love working with kids, and I think that with patience, understanding, and time, all students are capable of reaching their potential.

I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also expect that my students perform the tasks asked of them in the time given, as to further reach our goals. I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding.
