I have experience in all of the fields that are listed. Most of the skills I have acquired were either through learning them during my time at school or through doing personal research because they interested me. After earning my teaching degree in English, I gained some middle school and high school teaching experience, then took a different path for some years. While earning my master's degree in reading education, I gained experience by helping teach children at Western Carolina University's reading clinic in Asheville. I have done some individual tutoring on my own, while searching for a position in my field. As an avid reader myself, I know the value of a sound reading ability. I try to instill that love of reading in my students.
I have found that children are very comfortable with me, which makes the learning process flow more smoothly. I like working with children of all ages. I believe that children of all ages and cultural backgrounds can learn if given a proper chance. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books. I believe in making learning a fun experience with lots of games and an easy going manner. If the kid is bored or unhappy, it is going to make it much harder for the child to learn.
