A Little Bit About Me...

Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. As a tutor I make it my priority to learn not only which subjects a student needs help with but also why they are struggling at all which allows me to adapt the lesson plan in a way that is easy for them to understand and retain.

I have tutored as a self-employed tutor in French, and my student was ahead of her class for the beginning of the next year. I have also weekly taught two classes at two elementary schools in French. I have been to Québec, Canada, two of the past three summers, in which I had a great immersion to a degree in the language. Also, I have done some volunteer translations for Huntsville, AL; England; and Sherbrooke, Québec. French was my minor when I received my BBA in 2009.
I am rather easy-going, and am flexible in the material that I teach. Depending on the needs of the student, I can either provide a lesson plan each session or help the student with homework. I can provide references upon request when I am hired.

I think all people are learners whether they are in a classroom or not. As a teacher I like to use hands on interactive methods that put the student at the center of the learning. I am patient and fun while still maintaining a professional decorum with my students.
