A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching varies with the child, their age, personality, subject, and amount of time we have. Besides teaching 2nd grade religion for 14 years my daughter has ADD. I have worked with kids who need to keep moving while they learn, to kids who need complete quiet. Some kids are more visual learners; others need to act the lesson out, while others do fine quietly reading. The important thing is to make it interesting so they WANT to learn. Older kids with a higher level of maturity don't require as entertaining a lesson. They want to see how to apply what they are learning to their life. To know there is a reason to learn makes them WANT to learn, understanding WHY they will need to know the information makes the learning easier.

I have done much volunteer work in my field of accounting and business administration via not much with tutoring. During my senior year at Kalamazoo College I tutored in the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), as well as designing the curriculum for and delivering a free class in the same topic. I graduated as the top Philosophy student in my class after serving as an Honors Teaching Assistant in Philosophy of Law, and then continued on to undergo summer training with Teach For America.
