Painting is one of my top subjects! I am most experienced in oil paints but will primarily teach in watercolor, gouache and acrylic for ages under 13.

I am a recent grad from Stevens Point, starting my own private art teaching business. I have 7 years of professional experience, which includes gallery exhibits, juried shows and the sale of numerous works. I am most adept in oil painting, however I am also skilled in drawing (graphite, ink, charcoal, pastels) and 3 dimensional work (ceramic, metal, wood). I have been an aid for several workshops here in the Stevens Point Area.
I believe that homeschooling and private lessons allow kids and adults to learn and understand their subject matter quicker, more efficiently, and with close guidance. I aim to teach any student like an adult, allowing my classroom/studio to operate like a college level course. I will host critiques, ask in depth questions and have each student develop their own digital portfolio by the end of the course/instruction.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent student, my online education used the most progressive and innovative resources available. The BS in Interdisciplinary Studies enabled me to become proficient in three, instead of one discipline. A focus in English-Professional Writing, Business and Psychology, provided advanced knowledge of many subjects, plus research, writing and communication skills, essential to online learning. I have skillfully produced thousands of academic papers, requiring extensive research, on a wide-range of study topics, making me aware of and responsive to students’ needs. Furthermore, as a Support Substitute for my local school district, I have worked with students of all ages, in a variety of ways, including one-on-one tutoring.

I like teaching through differentiation methods. I believe all children learn differently and teachers need to offer different options to facilitate those students' learning and enhance their multiple intelligences.

Also since starting my program at Cardinal Stritch University, I've been placed in a couple of schools and have taught along with the regular teacher. I believe that mutual respect and understanding is fundamental to a student-teacher relationship. I take time to get to know my students, both to understand their personalities for the purpose of choosing a teaching style that would be more effective with them, as well as to let them know that I genuinely care about them and their success. Compassion, encouragement, and patience are three qualities that I believe are so important to removing the effective filter that a student creates within him/herself when he/she feels uncomfortable. Once that "wall" is removed then true learning and comprehension can take place and this is what I strive to do with each of my students.
I graduated summa cum laude with my BA and MA in Italian linguistics and while that seems to be a degree that is not very marketable in the field of general tutoring, I have studied other subjects at the graduat ... read more

Growing up knowing that knowledge is power, it seemed as though anything was achievable. But as I began learning, I wondered why some things came easier to others and why some kids needed more type, and with this I began to investigate, I have learned different ways of conveying the same information in different styles. Everyone has the potential to learn information, it just depeneds on how they learn, and if everyone could be educated the difference in education with dramatically increase the world and peoples lifestyle would improve. I love watching and learning from children. I believe that learning is closely related to confidence. I like to take the time to get to know children and understand what they like so that I can better understand how their brain works and how they process information. In understanding what they like, this gives me the ability to let them show me something new. The best way that I retained information in college was to teach someone else what I was studying. As the children learn the new information, I like to have them show me the new information the same way they did their hobby or interest.

In 2005 I obtained a degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and in 2009 obtained a masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I have worked with children of normal intelligence and what cognitive disabilities. Although my degrees are not directly related to math, I use mathmatical concepts daily. I bring to the table the ability to use math terms in a day to day experience, rather than just in a classroom setting.
I believe that all children can learn, and when a child has difficulty grasping a concept, the teacher must change their technique. I have used a variety of methods when working with children. Manipulatives, flash cards ,games and stimulus equivalence training are just a few. I also believe that a child that needs extra help with a subject should not feel like they are being punished.
