Reading is one of my top subjects! I have worked primarily with students who have learning disabilities in reading. In addition to direct instruction in reading, pre and post assessments are ongoing during my work with students. This provides information on the students progress and/or specific areas in reading that need to be addressed.

I like using simple “demo” experiments to show the “magic” of chemistry. Demos are then backed up by showing the chemical equations to explain what is actually going on. I like to use visual learning methods as well as memorization and recognition methods. Seeing a diagram is sometimes not enough. Actually trying to simulate a diagram/problem on your own after seeing it once promotes better understanding. As pertaining to math, depending on the level of the learner, I would do some problems together first and then let them work through it and find out where they run into problems. I always write out the problems along with the learner. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn all subjects as long as they have the motivation and determination to learn.
