I've tutored several people with math and homework problems. They have always reported more understanding from me than their teachers, and were very satisfied with the lessons. I allow the student the time that it takes them in order for them to "get it" without pressuring them. I also like to make the material as simple as possible by teaching in a manner where I like to emphasize understanding as opposed to just being able to do it.
