When I was in school, I could always understand or figure out what the teacher was trying to get across. Some students, however, didn’t always understand what was being explained. I was the kid who would rephrase the teacher’s remarks and explain it again in a way that the other students could understand. Not all students understand things in the same way. I try to find a way to explain things so the material is more interesting and less frustrating than it is when the teacher explains it. I love the “ah-hah moments” when you realize the student just got it. I am easy going; and kids have an easy time talking with me.

I am a great believer in Cognitive Constructivist teaching methods. I believe "working with" a new concept or idea is extremely valuable in remembering the target information. So, in working with my current students, I always try to reinforce lecture information with patient guided practice and hands-on activities so that the student can build his or her own knowledge and get the information to stick.
I have dedicated the majority of my adult life to reaching and teaching others so that they may reach their potential. I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. I typically work off of a performance based reward system since it appears to me that children are motivated by praise and reward in order to push them to do better on each successive obstacle they encounter in the classroom

I enjoy children and trying to teach them new and exciting things. At times, I understand that it requires patience to work with children, but if you are able to do that then chances of success are much more likely. I believe that everything we teach to these children will be needed sooner or later in life, and that the understanding of this knowledge will further improve their lives. I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet. I am the one that accepts that challenge and carries through that process of finding the best possible answers.
