A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since I started my education (going for my Bachelor degree), I fell in love with Mathematics. Throughout my educational career I became very interested in fields such as algebra, calculus and analysis, geometry and topology, and combinatorics. This interest was furthered through my master's degree, as I learnt more and more about the mathematical economics and applied statistics. Additionally, I attended specialized courses and seminars, as well as worked as a teacher assistant for professors teaching calculus and algebra in the University of Jordan. Furthermore, I have taught differential geometry, calculus II, and linear algebra as a math tutor in the University of Arizona. Going forward, I would like to further my knowledge and sharpen my skills by working in your department. Also, I hope and believe that my professional experience will bring a valuable contribution to ... read more

I prioritize learning the fundamentals. I also teach study habits and strive to help the student so that they can continue to excel without my help.
Throughout high school I was a teaching assistant at Iolani during the summer for English Language Learners. While attending Harvard University, I volunteered in a after school program in Boston's Chinatown community teaching second and third graders from low income families. There I helped them with homework and developed projects with fellow counselors to enrich their learning. Throughout my whole learning career I have tutored many of my own friends primarily in math and science.

Over the past six years, I have been a collegiate instructor, a private tutor, and a tutor for elementary, middle school, and high school students in science, math, reading comprehension, writing, and history. Both my parents were teachers and I enjoyed teaching as well. I've had good teachers and I know how important it is to be a student of your students and to know your stuff so that you can be effective as a teacher. I consider myself very patient, a good listener, and someone who can explain matters in multiple ways so that a student can understand and relate what they are learning to real life situations.
I'm a 25 year professional accountant with a CPA license in CAlifornia and Hawaii. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students who are willing to learn. My drive to be a tutor happens when that light bulb goes on and the student finally is getting it. The satisfaction and accomplishment the student feels is what keeps me going. My philosophy ensures that students understand and are able to replicate the work I am helping them with. Some tutors just make sure the work gets done and is correct. I make sure the student is able to reproduce the correct answer on their own for future homework and tests. I'm an easy going person who has a passion for making sure the students I tutor either catch up to their peers or surpass them.

When I meet with a new client I create a plan by finding out where they are having trouble with starting with the basics. I make sure each client is prepared with all the basic tools to succeed before moving on to a new section. It is important to have to basics mastered to avoid having problems in the future. I like to teach by example. I do this by creating a problem, showing the steps, and then changing the numbers or variables. This way the the student can remember the process rather than just the answer. I always give positive reinforcement for their hard work. I believe creating challenges and praising clients for their accomplishments helps them retain the material.

Teaching requires a patient, easygoing individual since not all students learn at similar speeds. There is not one single way to teach, so it is important to encompass different approaches. With this realization, I will teach with an open-mind to strive for effectiveness and success. I will be respectful of my students at all times, even during times of struggle. Pulling through obstacles is what builds character and perseverance, and I know I have performed my job when the student achieves his/her goal of further understanding. Often times, children only begin to tap into their potential when someone else believes in them first. I will be that believer, so that soon each of them shall grow into his/her own motivator.
