I believe that students best learn from doing. My role as a tutor is not just to provide answers, but to facilitate and encourage learning. However I am also able to provide a knowledge base in a number of subjects to help answer questions the student may be struggling with. I know that all students learn differently. I try to cater my teaching to fit the individual student. I know what may work with one student will not work with another student. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and capable of mastering the subject. I have been very successful at this and have often had short tutoring assignments: once we discover what is keeping a student from grasping the subject, fixing it is easy and then the student can proceed on their own with or without the help of a parent. A Little Bit About Me...

Growing up with more than five teachers in my family, I have always had a deep understanding of the importance of education and a drive to teach others. I recieved my Bachelor's in English from the University of Southern Indiana with the intention of completing a Masters and becomming an instructor at the college level. However, upon completion of my Bachelors, I immediately began teaching at Nashville State Community College as an adjunct english instructor. I then made a transition to tutoring grades K-12 for the No Child Left Behind Program. I have enjoyed working in this capacity for the program ever since I started tutoring five years ago.

I think learning happens best when the principle is related to a real life situation and the learner can understand the relevance and see the principle in action. When applicable, I like to use activities or examples from everyday life to highlight the prinicple being taught.
In college I was a Biochemistry lab assistant for 2 years, teaching labs, grading lab reports, and offering assistance to students in the completion of their lab reports and assignments. I also have a firm grasp of high school mathematics, especially geometry for which I earned a 104 average for the school year. Both of my parents are writers, hence I have always valued the use of proper grammar. In my professional work, I have found that using proper grammar is essential to communicating clearly and effectively.
