A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I also have worked six summers at a Salvation Army camp. Through these experiences I have worked with both gifted and special needs children and youth.
I believe that all children have the capability to learn if someone is willing to be patient and work with them. Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. And due to the difficulty of my major, I feel that by being able to communicate well with others in this area I could handle various other scenarios as well. I have always wanted to be a teacher, I couldn't really see myself doing anything else. I try to make learning and inclusive experience for all children. I feel that sometimes children's different learning styles get overlooked and then as a community we have a child that is left feeling that they are unworthy. My goal is to help all children learn at their pace and at their skill level, not at some standard set by the state. I believe that every student can successfully learn different subjects if the material is presented to them in a way they can understand. Students vary in how they learn; some learn from reading and others from visuals. I will help to identify which style works best for the student and then tutor them using that style.
