A Little Bit About Me...

I try to relate to the children as best as I can and make the learning fun for them whenever possible. I am easy going, polite and helpful. I also talk to them about other things besides homework and studying, such as personal problems. My students trust me and this makes it easier for me to help them and to teach them. Most of my students were high school freshmen and sophomores.
Currently, I am a systems engineering graduate student at Penn State University. I have earned a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from SUNY Oswego with minors in applied statistics and philosophy. My last position was as an academic mentor and tutor for AmeriCorps. I have one year of tutoring experience at Hannibal High School in Hannibal, New York. I tutored students in subjects including mathematics, science and history.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught in many areas of study. Since I was young, I taught my younger family members the importance of manners, honesty, care, and responsibility. I believe this has carried into my real-life career as a teacher. I have taught at schools such as Hope Hall in Rochester, NY and Lemoyne Elementary in Syracuse, NY. There I helped my students with their basic subject courses during their class time period. I have taught dance at Kami's Kix Dance Studio which has helped me to gain stronger classroom management skills as well as gaining a thicker patience. I am currently a sixth grade teacher at a Catholic Elementary School. I have been with the same school for the past 14 years. My experience there has been in the following grade levels: Pre-School, First Grade, Fourth Grade, Sixth Grade, Seventh Grade Math & Science, and Eighth Grade Math & Science. I have also tutored students in grades three through six in both reading and mathematics.
It is very important to me that my students have fun while they are learning. Much of my teaching is done through games and hands-on experiences. I also firmly believe in the use of technology (computers) to help teach and reinforce concepts being taught. Every child has strengths and it is important to build upon those strengths.

At the University of Illinois at Chicago I earned a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering and worked as a teaching assistant for three sememsters of graduate school. After leaving the university I tutored former students from my labs in math, science, engineering, and programming. I did this as hobby. I enjoy working with students. I am currently helping someone working on a master's degree in computer science.
