Taught History and Latin at the high school level from 1984 through 1989. During 1988 and 1989 taught high school Honors classes while attending law school at night. Tutored high school students in Latin and Math while attending Gymnasium in Germany from 1976-1978. Concluded an intensive Polish immersion language program from 1980-1982 concluding with a Certificate of Competency in Polish qualifying for study in Poland.
Learning, in my experience, is best done in an environment with a minimum of anxiety and performance stress. I teach to a mastery learning approach appropriate for language instruction. I present the material first in accordance with the text presentation, and then drill and quiz to ascertain the level of comprehension over the next several days. I ask all students to answer sample questions, and I am looking to see who does not understand what, and why. When deficiencies are discovered, I represent material in as many different ways as are ultimately needed to ensure comprehension and success.
